As Christians, we have an Omniscient and mighty Heavenly Father willing to make His way known. He wants to reveal what to do in every situation, and in fact, promises this: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will counsel you with my eyes upon you” (Psalm 32:8). Let us explore how to discern God’s will at each crossroad of life. The first step is to ensure we have repented of all known sins, as our God is Holy and cannot tolerate sin. Listening to the Lord while holding to iniquity is like trying to use a foggy and unreadable compass. After confessing and repenting, we can ask for directions. Next, we should read scriptures regularly with a seeking and open heart. The Bible is like a lamp to our path (Psalm 119:105). The last step involves God’s in-dwelling Holy Spirit—the incredible gift our Father has given each of His children. The Spirit provides truth and guidance as we read the Word and pray. We should listen patiently for His leading, often communicated quietly to our hearts as we spend time with the Father. When asking the Lord to reveal His will, we should not expect instant answers. The discipline of waiting builds up our character. Let us take the time to seek God’s plan for our lives, remembering He will provide all we need if we follow Him. — 1 John 5:14-15
