What are our anchors for the storm? What do we have within us that can stabilize the ship of life through the winds of doubt, sorrows, pain, hurts, and temptations? It is what happens during the storm and not in the calm of life’s shelters that tests our faith.
On Paul’s voyage to Rome, a wind storm blew down from the mountains of Crete, caught hold of the ship, and tossed it for days. While the boat drifted across the sea, the sailors fearing a shipwreck, let out four anchors while Paul kept praying. Life is like that. What four anchors would stabilize us during turbulent times?
Paul, in prayers, lowered the true anchors of life. 1. He had the anchor of TRUST in the presence of God. 2. Then, the anchor of HOPE. God is faithful. The Psalmist was right: “Hope in the Lord.” 3. He had the anchor of PURPOSE. Purpose liberates our fears and gives us courage. 4. The anchor of FELLOWSHIP. God always provides some persons who know and understand, listen, and love. These are our anchors until the dawn of a new day and our Anchors for the Storm of Life. –Acts 27: 29
