In Genesis, we learn of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God warned that we should not solely rely on our own knowledge, but to trust in Him. However, as we recall from the biblical story of Adam and Eve, they wanted to know for themselves, without the need for dependence on God. They wanted to be like God, rather than trust in God. We all know the terrible results. They ate of the fruit and we have not been able to handle the resulting responsibility ever since. Unencumbered by the limitations of physical life, the joys and delight of fellowship with God would be given without limit.
The good news is that the birth and resurrection of Jesus has made such a salvation/saving gift possible again. We know that this will be our reward, when we accept Jesus into our lives as Lord and Savior. All the trials and tragedies of our present life will be rewarded. As believers in Christ, we have the promise of eternity with God. Death is not an ending, but a triumphant transition.
If we know, love, and serve God now, we essentially get a taste of heaven even in our current lives. Whatever trials we have faced, whatever difficulties we may be going through, they cannot compare with the glory which shall be revealed to us in heaven. Remember, Christ promised to be with us in any trials that may come. Let us lean on God and release all our anxieties to Him.
