While Waiting

One of the most difficult challenges in living is knowing when to act and when to wait. We all abhor lack of courage and boldness. But equally so, we are disturbed by people who act without thought. The key is to learn how to act in God’s timing, in His power, and under His guidance. This attribute requires waiting for God’s purpose and timing.
Most of us find waiting very difficult. The people were tired of waiting for Moses. He had been on Mount Sanai for 40 days. What are we waiting for? they asked. We are tired of waiting around! The golden calf was the unfortunate outcome.
Anything we do without waiting for God’s guidance and timing becomes a golden calf. All that God had done to help the Israelites escape Egypt had been forgotten in their impatience. The same is true for us. We overlook the fact that God previously met our needs and graciously protects us from what would hurt us. The full-time vocation of living is to seek and know God and His will for our lives. Thus, we can live and act on His timing, strategy, and power. — Exodus 32:1
